Daring Dumplings!
Have you ever wanted to be a part of history? Have you ever wanted to be the one to say, “Remember that time we were at the unveiling of the first ever time machine” or “Remember when the wall came down and I tripped on a chunk of concrete?” Well—here’s one better—instead of just being there—you can MAKE history. For the first time ever—at the 3rd Annual Tang’s Natural NYC Dumpling Festival, an official adjudicator from the famed Guinness World Records will be there for the 8th Annual Chef One Dumpling Eating Contest. Ever thought you could be the one destined to eat the most dumplings in 2 minutes? Here’s your chance to stop wondering and start munching!
Before we get into the nitty gritty of this festival—let’s step back a few paces and go over what a dumpling is. What is a dumpling? Well—it is succulence wrapped in floury goodness. Wait—was that too vague? Let me try again. Many countries have their own versions—from Poland you have a “pierogi” and from China it would be “jiao zi” and in Japan they are referred to as “gyoza”. Now, Italy commonly refers to the gnocchi as the dumpling—and in texture it qualifies—but, in my opinion, I think a tortellini or ravioli should qualify too (for the stuffing element). Anyhow, the stuffing in the center is what makes it fun—there are so many great combinations you can play with. Whatever the name—I have never tasted a dumpling I didn’t enjoy.
What I’ve always loved the most is when my passions intertwine, in this case—my love of food with my desire to help those in need. This event gives exposure to Food Bank for NYC as well as a few others. What makes the Food Bank different? Contrary to popular belief—it isn’t just about giving out food—it’s about income support and nutrition education as well. It is such a thoughtfully realized organization.
Now that we have our very brief history of the dumpling satiated as well as why we should attend—let’s get down to the details of this awesome event!
