Food for Thought #265
Le Mesnagier de Paris was the first housewife’s instructional manual/cookbook, written in 1393 by a bourgeois Parisian believed to have been in his 50′s for his orphan teen bride. It included lessons on taking care of the home and garden along with a chapter on cooking. It inspired other women to create housewife guides, giving them a voice, which was a small part of the long haul towards women’s freedom.

The book can be found in English, but goes by the title The Good Wife’s Guide: A Medieval Household Book. =]
