Discoveries of New York Foodies!

Mustang Harry’s

Hola!

Last week my friends and I were out for a stroll in midtown Manhattan near Madison Square Garden  and we decided to get a bite.  We ended up at Mustang Harry’s, just two blocks south of the Garden.  Yes, it is owned by the same owners of Mustang Sally’s, which is just a little further south on 7th Avenue.

Firstly, the decor is tasteful and beautiful.  Usually I avoid restaurants near Penn Station because the majority of them seem tired and seedy.  Not this place.  It is a deep, multi-level restaurant appears recently renovated with beautiful etched glass partitions which separate cozy booths.  Some parts of the bar are reminiscent of the late great Frank Lloyd Wright.  I was surprised to learn that it can seat 250 at any given time.  Comfortable,  laid back, yet still sophisticated.  Thumbs up to the architect who designed the space.  Bravo!  It is easy to see why it is a favored stop for locals and visitors alike. It is a perfect spot to relax before a game or concert or even after a hard day of retail therapy at Macy’s on 34th street.  There is  good use of the basement with the  installation a private room with a bar of over 100 feet in length.  It  is one of the longest in the city.  It is perfect for private parties.   Keep Mustang Harry in mind next time you are looking for a spot to watch a big game.

The menu is what really impressed me.  They have the traditional foods that you find in a bar restaurant like burgers and fries; however, they also have much nicer items than I expected to find.  The bruschetta milano was my favorite.  The tomatoes tasted so fresh, it seems that the chef has his own garden in the back somewhere.    The spicy shrimp really is spicy; be sure to ask for a basket of bread if you order it.  Trust me on that one!  The onion soup was great and the nachos make you not want to share… :-)
