Latin Roots
If you are ever in Viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico, and you are in the mood to learn salsa, try Latin Roots. They have a great teacher, Eli Irazarry, President of the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress, who will not only teach you for FREE, he will do it in front of a live band. And if salsa is not your thing, he also teaches merengue and bachata.
It’s in the newer part of Viejo San Juan behind the Sheraton Hotel and just blocks from the port for the cruise ships and Castillo San Cristobal, and their dance lessons start as early as 11:00am in the morning.
And if after all that dancing if you get hungry, they have a very extensive menu of authentic Puerto Rican menu. I even learned that the mangu version of ripe plantains is called Fufu. Who knew??? And they have a great dessert menu. i was lucky enough to try about half of the items on the dessert menu (one of the benefits of being a tour director) and all was good.
