Atlantic ArtWalk 2011

There are many reasons why NYC is called the city that never sleeps.  There is always something to do, see or eat!    This  weekend, there is an event that offers a wonderful combination of all three.  June 4th & 5th,  marks the 8th Annual Atlantic ArtWalk in Brooklyn. ArtWalk takes place along the cultural corridor of Atlantic Avenue through the historic neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Gowanus, and Downtown Brooklyn.  It is a self-guided tour of open artist studios and area exhibitions, a range of public art projects, special events, with local merchants hosting a range of artwork and events. The event offers a a wonderful combination of culture, cuisine and community.

Cuisine. Atlantic Avenue has a multitude of restaurants and eateries from which to choose.  Local restaurants and bars offer ArtWalkers special promotions and pricing.   Bromography has already reviewed several, and will take this opportunity to visit a few more.

Culture. The Art exhibits and events which give this event its name, will be very much in evidence over the weekend. The Avenue has a long history as a mecca for furniture and antiques; however, this is changing.  A wealth of artists and studios have been drawn to the thoroughfare in recent years.   The latest addition is Signum, at 373 Atlantic Avenue. This interior design studio and retail gallery showcases the work of a wide network of artists.  Signum will be holding a grand opening reception on Saturday, June 4th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  Be sure to drop by over the weekend!

Community. The ArtWalk Block Party on Nevins Street between Atlantic and Pacific, featuring live music, food, art activities, performances, and more is a great way to get to know the  neighbors.
