Discoveries of New York Foodies!

2011 International Restaurant Foodservice Show of NY

I recently spent a very interesting afternoon at the 2011 International Restaurant Foodservice Show of NY at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.  It  is a huge convention, and was quite overwhelming .   Everything  food related  you could possibly imagine was presented, from equipment to food to shopping bags to table coverings, etc., etc., etc.  If you ever consider opening or running a restaurant, I highly suggest to check this event out for ideas.  The convention is held every year.

I want to mention some of my favorites items:

Milano’s Charcuterie - Cured meats that make great cold cuts (look out Boar’s Head!) Everything was good.

Kenyo Soy Sauce – It is a very low sodium soy sauce that still tasted like it is supposed to, just lighter.

Yuzu-It Pepper Sauce - A great Asian hot sauce that can be added to pretty much anything.   It gives the right amount of kick without needing a tall glass of water.

Ciro’s Cacio al Pepe Nero, Primo Sale, Caciotta Dolce, Cacio al Pepperoncia - Great soft cheese that was mild enough but with the just enough kick that that you can add it to Mac & Cheese.

Onion Crunch – It is an interesting topping that I think would be great on a salad.  They presented it on a hot dog… interesting combination, I’m just not sure if it is for me…

Blue Mussels - Interesting name… I was hesitant.  They tasted the same as regular mussels to me.  Not sure if I was supposed to be impressed.

If you get a chance to try any of these, please let me know what you think.

Thank you and Happy Eating!

  2. Oh Boy! I’m dying to go to one of those shows, I’m sure I would be overwhelmed too. I hope that something like that happens here in LA. I never heard of onion crunch…but it sounds great to me.
