Thinking Thai

Channelside Center in Tampa, Florida has a number of interesting restaurant choices. Most appear to cater to boisterous groups seeking a spring break vibe.  When walking through the plaza, I decided to try Thai Thani.  The authentic Thai decor was very attractive.  Subdued lighting, hand carved furniture, antiques and interesting art work seemed to promise a pleasant and relaxing dining experience.

Our party was seated promptly by the attentive staff.  The menu  offered the standard dishes.   We ordered a selection which included house fried rice, Double Delight, Phad Bai Kapow, Crab Rangoon, spring rolls, dumplings and Thai iced teas.  Our order was delivered quickly.  Too quickly!   The chicken dishes were very undercooked, and the fried rice had been sitting around.  Although all the vegetables were all swimming in sauce, they were all practically raw.  It also seemed that in his/her haste, the chef had forgotten to season each dish.  Everything was very bland.

It is possible that given the crowds that often fill the resort area, the Thai Thani staff have become too focused on speed and efficiency.  Unfortunately, food should never be an afterthought in a restaurant.

  1. Sounds somewhat disastrous. I am curious what “Double Delight” is, but it seems that nothing here could even be called single delight. Or even half delight.
