Discoveries of New York Foodies!

Tha Lobster Pushah?

As a New Yorker, I often encounter unlicensed, unauthorized or clearly illegal enterprises around the city.  I am rarely phased, whether I see counterfeit designer  bags on Canal Street,  unauthorized sports memorabilia near Madison Square Garden or the ubiquitous DVD vendors selling movies released that day.  I must admit that I was recently thrown for a loop by the Lobster Pushah.

Ben Sargent, aka the Lobster Pushah, runs an underground lobster roll  business.  He prepares lobster rolls in his Greenpoint basement apartment, and sells them drug dealer style to his clientele.  Sargent is not newcomer to the preparation of  seafood.  He has already been recognized by the likes of Bobby Flay and Martha Stewart for his chowder expertise under the name Brooklyn Chowder Surfer.

While it is unlikely that I will try Sargent’s lobster rolls anytime soon, as surreptitious cash transactions on a dark street corner are not my style, I will take the time to watch a few episodes of Fish TV on brooklynchowdersurfer.com

If you have tried the illicit lobster rolls, I would love to hear about it!
