Crispy Fish
Let me tell you the story about Crispy Fish…
I’ve been going to Szechuan Delight for about 18 years, pretty much since they opened. I would definitely say that this entree is near the very top of my Happy Food List. I don’t exactly recall how I first started eating Crispy Fish, but I do know that since that time, I have NEVER not once ordered anything else! So much so, that my friends and I call the restaurant, Crispy Fish, even though it does have a real name. I can’t pronounce it, nor does anyone know what I’m talking about it when I call it by the actual name, so why bother!? It has become a destination spot for my friends from St. Louis, Florida, Westchester, Queens and Upper West Side…
It is an entire grouper, deep fried and sits on a bed of some awesome brown ginger sauce with peas and carrots and is served with a bowl of either white or brown rice. I also always order of broccoli or spinach, sauteed in garlic and chicken broth (no brown sauce). The sauteed vegetables are seriously good. It is a sizable order, and should be enough for two ;however, once you’ve had it, you are not going to want to share. The size of the fish can be a little unpredictable, so you might one to order just one for you and another for your date. I’ve tried to order this dish in other restaurants, and have just been disappointed, so I stopped trying to find it elsewhere.
I will forewarn you, this is NOT the type of entree that you have as take-out or have waiting for you. It’s deep fried so the flavor changes when it has been allowed to sit around in a bag or under a warming lamp. It takes about 20 minutes to get since it is made to order, so gauge your time. I have the restaurant’s number on speed dial in my cell phone ,and place the order as I am walking out of my house…
