As a born and raised New Yorker, I am familiar with all five boroughs; however, I am not on intimate terms with all the nooks and crannies of every borough. I recently made a foray into the less than familiar territory of Forest Hills, Queens to meet a friend for brunch. We selected a Mexican restaurant called 5 Burro Cafe from haphazard geographical online search.
5 Burros is a small neighborhood place which definitely caters to the locals. It has a slightly worn homey feel with a friendly vibe. When we arrived for Sunday brunch, the restaurant was busy; however, we were seated immediately and a waitress took our order quickly. We ordered Western omelettes, a side order of chorizo (not on the menu) and a margarita pitcher. The food was fairly good, and the margaritas were very good. The real attraction of 5 Burros Cafe is the warm atmosphere. The staff and regular patrons have a congenial rapport which makes 5 Burros a place to come back to. I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return, but I would definitely visit if I was in the area.
