In following with my earlier post, 2009 Vendy Awards, I visited each of the 5 finalist to select my own favorite prior to the ceremony on September 26th. My second stop was to the Meru Sidker’s Biryani Cart.
I followed the delicious aroma of the Biryani cart from over a block away. Apparently, many others had done the same, as there was quite a crowd surrounding the cart. Biryani has a number of dedicated patrons who are very determined. This made ordering a little difficult as there did not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the ordering process. It did not help that I was in a crowd of hungry men, all over a foot taller than myself. I enlisted the aid of a helpful gentleman (built like a line backer) and finally ordered. I selected the combo kebab. The
kebab was a confusing dish with many different elements; however, the final result was a very flavorful and filling meal. After finishing the combo kebab, I was too full to try another dish, and probably should have saved some space, but I was enjoying it too much to stop. I certainly understand why Biryani cart is a neighborhood favorite, and may be back to try something else from the extensive menu.
Overall, I give the Meru Sidker’s Biryani cart a 88% rating. [rating:88/100]

Although I’m lucky enough to have leftover biryani sitting in my fridge awaiting lunchtime after reading this, I’m dismayed that it’s only 9am.
My personal philosophy is that the food does not know what time it is, so anything goes. However, I must confess that I have paid the price for having a large bowl of stew at 7:00 am.
