Foodie Friends – August Update
The Foodie Friends team has continued its mission of empowering fellow foodies to improve their lives . Here’s what has happened:
- Foodie Friends made a loan to Nancy Kaku in Sudan. Nancy runs a fresh fish stall in a local market. The loan was needed to purchase her own boat and nets.
- Lex joined the Foodie Friends team.
- Nancy Kaku has repaid 8% of her loan. There are 12 more months left on the loan term.
- Foodie Friends made a loan to Maria Cristina Yupanqui Chambilla in Peru. Maria is a street vendor selling prepared foods. She also does small scale catering. The loan was needed to purchase supplies (potatoes, rice, meat, oil & fuel) at lower wholesale prices. This is Maria’s second Kiva loan; the first was repaid in full.
You can learn more about micro-finance at Kiva.org. Check back next month to see what we are doing!
**The Foodie Friends team is called Cooking for Kiva as of June 2010
