Osaka Outpost

One of the great things about New York City is that it offers all things to all people. Lively cosmopolitan nightlife and the suburban soccer mom social scene exist side by side. Southern Brooklyn offers a quieter lifestyle than most people associate with New York. Its quiet tree-lined neighborhoods and single family homes are 6 miles, and a world away from the glittering lights of Manhattan. These neighborhoods (Midwood, Flatlands, Marine Park and others) have not been designated as “trendy” by the powers that be; however, residents, like myself, like it that way. Affordable places with great quality of life, less than 40 minutes from midtown Manhattan are hard to come by, the “trendy” label tends to erase the affordable one. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of a quieter lifestyle is the dearth of restaurant choices. There is less of a selection in this part of the borough when compared to its trendier counterparts.
Every now and then, a bit of “trendy” Brooklyn appears outside the typical geography. Osaka on Flatbush Avenue is one of these outposts. Osaka has several locations in more high profile areas, but offers the same good service and food in this quiet corner of Brooklyn. The solid selection of sushi at reasonable prices appeals to students and soccer moms alike. The Sweetheart, Fire Dragon, Double Crunch and King Kong rolls are just a few of the interesting offerings. The tatami rooms and $20 all you can eat special are the perfect combination for a lively girls’ night out.
The faded pink exterior is not particularly eye catching, but like the rest of southern Brooklyn, you should not judge it by its cover.
